Getting traffic to your website

1.Testing
This is probably the most important step; if your visitors do not like your site they will not come back therefore effectively losing traffic. Check that everything is laid out neatly and every is simple to use. Check everything is easy to read and works properly. After you have, just consider these few questions: Do I need more traffic?, Can I cope with more traffic? Why do I need more traffic?
2.Sign up to a Search Engine
This is an easy and common way to get traffic by signing up to a search engine. This is when someone types in a keyword and your website is linked to it. However this way is usually not the most effective because it depends on how close to that word you are for a chance of someone finding you.
3.Advertising
This is a very successful way of getting traffic if you manage to find the right person to advertise your site. You can pay your advertiser by either Pay Per Click, Pay Per Action or Pay Per Thousand. Advertising could come in the form of text links / banners or pop ups. Obviously banners and pop ups will be more successful because you will be noticed more but they will cost you more to pay the website advertising you.
4.E-mail Advertising
This way can be tricky to set up can get going but it can be very rewarding. By e-mailing people you are advertising to them directly which could get you more noticed. However be careful with this because you can't start SPAMing people which will have a indefinite affect on your traffic (people will not like you).
5.Special Forums
A completely different way of getting traffic is to sign up and pay special wesite forums to hold you and they provide the people to come and visit your site. For obvious reasons be careful who you choose and make sure that they do get alot of visitors and it is worth your money.
6.Linking to other sites
Link to other sites while at the same time get them to link to you. Preferably try and link to sites that are similar and relevant to yours therefore you will get traffic of which will be interested in your site.
7.Keep your site interesting
To keep getting visitors to your website try and give them a little something new to do every week/month. For example make a special monthly thing like a vote or a interactive activity etc...
8.Timing
If you release everything you have planned at the same time then people will go on it but then after a few months your traffic will steadily decrease and there will nothing you can do because you have used all your ideas at the start.
